 Overview
Our newest Chalet, La Retraite - is situated in Les Pecles just a 5 minute walk from Chamonix town centre. Recently renovated to an exceptionally high standard in traditional Savoyard style, the site has been lived in since the 18th Century and was at one stage home to the Lachenal family one of France's most famous names in alpinism and of course famous for their great achievement on Annapurna some fifty years ago. The Chalet, which was completed in October 2004, has been completely refurbished with all new appliances including an extra large outdoor hot tub, sauna and cinema system including Plasma TV.
Lounge
An open plan kitchen lounge area is fitted around a large open fireplace, which provides a warm, intimate atmosphere for the guests. A beautiful leather upholstered suite comfortably accommodates 8 people and creates a superb atmosphere with the benefits of a new cinema system including a plasma screen and DVD system with surround sound. There is an excellent choice of the latest DVDs and Music CDs. This area leads onto the external balcony, which boasts some of the most amazing views of the Mont Blanc Massif from anywhere in Chamonix
Kitchen
The open plan kitchen has all modern facilities including state of the art oven and hob together with the top of the range dishwasher. This leads to the dining area where we have a beautiful handmade traditional French table which comfortably seats 8 people and will extend to accommodate a further 4 so 12 in total. The close proximity of the kitchen to the dining area creates an excellent atmosphere and unique dining experience.
Bedrooms
The Chalet has four good size bedrooms comprising of the loft, which has been refitted to hold 2 double beds hidden away amongst the timber framing ideal for children, gnomes and dwarfs, creating a most perfect atmosphere. The attic area also comprises of an additional TV with DVD and video facilities. There is an independent shower room which can be used for this area or of course any of the other 3 bathrooms en suite to the other bedrooms. This is an ideal play area for children where they can happily be contented for hours!
The Master Bedroom has an en suite bath and shower facility together with double washbasins and is finished in traditional style. This room incorporates a kingsize bed and has a seating area with a Futon chair which of course can turn into a bed thus accommodates a further person. The room has access to the lower balcony with stunning views of the Mont Blanc Mountain and direct entry into the hot tub area.
The other two bedrooms can be used as 2 doubles or indeed with the interchangeable beds can be used as 4 singles. Both these rooms have en suite facilities with large Power Showers. All bedrooms have a CD Player and Radio for independent listening together with a hairdryer.
Hot Tub
We have incorporated here a brand new Hot Tub, which is the hot tub of all hot tubs. Imported directly from Canada it comfortably houses 6 people and has a water capacity of over 1500 litres. The position of this on the lower balcony has spectacular views of the whole Mont Blanc area including the Aguille du Midi, Mont Blanc de Tacul, Mont Blanc Maude, Mont Blanc summit and the Dome du Goutier. This beast of a hot tub incorporates over 40 jets and without question is the Ferrari in the hot tub business. We challenge anybody in the Alps to better it
Sauna
The lower floor incorporates a sauna, which comfortably will seat 6 people and has a mega 8KW sauna heater, which will blow away even the biggest sauna enthusiast. In the same room we also have a small exercise area, which includes a fitness bike, weights bench and exercise mat. If necessary this area can also be used as backup accommodation as it is fully heated and is finished with a beautiful wood panelling as with the rest of Chalet.
Location
This chalet is a genuine 5 minutes walk and is just off the centre area of Chamonix. From these areas it is possible to walk to the Brevent Ski Lift - as with the rest of the centre of Chamonix it is up the hill. This is a hard 10-15 minute walk to get to it and if you are not fit on arrival you certainly will be after a weeks holiday walking up to this lift. Of course the return journey is a lot easier. The Aguille du Midi lift is an easy 10 minute level walk from the Chalet but of course it is only for the experienced skiers or skiers who will be taking a guide. 2 minutes from the front door is the local railway where frequent trains can be taken from here to Flegere, Argentiere and Le Tour ski areas. This is by far the most convenient way of travelling and trains for this stop are stopped on request by using a hand signal. In a similar way the train can be stopped on your return journey. All this, combined with the chalet being less than 5 minutes from the Autoroute makes La Retraite the best location in the whole of the Chamonix valley.
Other facilities
Whilst the chalet is marketed an un-catered chalet many people also do take it catered. Our philosophy is a little different and when people do want catering we bring in a chef for the week to carry out breakfast and evening meals. This facility is not like any normal chalet dining, and offers a Gourmet menu together with the most fabulous cuisine. This experience can be taken either on a weekly basis or if preferred just for a couple of days. In addition to this we do offer a range of excellent quality French Wines, which can be purchased from us at the Chalet. You will have a chance to sample some of these wines on a free of charge basis on your arrival.
We can arrange a transfer from Geneva on your behalf with a local specialist company, which has given us an excellent service over the years. We also have reliable ski guides and instructors, which we use year after year. For further information on any of these services please contact us and we can give you the individual information.
Parking
Directly under the chalet is a private garage to house one car. This has a automatic barrier system and is completely secure. The size is 3.10m x 5.50M with a max height of 2.20M.

Change Over Day for La Retraite is Sunday Arrival after 4pm. Departure before 10am
Strictly Non Smoking Chalet but terraces and garden no problem. Well behaved animals are welcome by prior arrangement with Chamonix Chalets.La Retraite is an uncatered chalet. However, catering can be organised where we would include a gourmet chef for the week.Transfers can be arranged from Geneva. Reliable ski guides and instructors can be arranged for you in advance.
